This is not a Tulip

Since Klee and Kandinski, modern art suggests that artistic work is nothing but itself. Resemblance serves and is dominated by resurrection. Michel Faucault has written in his book by Yapı Kredi Publications for Magritte’s painting ''Ceci n'est pas une tulipe'' (This is not a tulip) : “Believing before all else that indicators that exist as coherent, suitable and systematic signs exist truly and originally means the death of interpretation. On the contrary, the life of interpretation depends on believing only interpretation exists.

  ''Ceci n'est pas une tulipe''
   “This is not a tulip.”

We have interpreted a passion flower “TULIP” for this exhibition.
The variety of the shapes the tulip connotes has guieded our works.

Tulip has become so important during Ottoman times, even a certain period was named the age of the tulip, during when more than 700 tulip graphs were made and tulips were embroidered on miniatures, tiles and clothes.
To make people always remember this short-lived flower, increasing copies of these tulip art works have penetrated through art, and painted a period in history, becoming a legend.

It has been a very interesting experience for the participants of this exhibition to portrait a section of this theme we cannot consume. As the forms started to evolve, they were trying to impose themselves. Jewelries of tulips we describe as sculptures to wear will start a new life with the people who appreciate them to spend a jolly and elegant summer. With the freedom created by the modern art concept, in this exhibition, you will find TULIPS that are their own creation, tulips that only look like themselves.

The exhibition ''Ceci n'est pas une tulipe'' ''Bu bir lale değildir'' runs at Ortakoy Simya Galeri from June 4 to July 8.
